Additional Information
Kobashi Davana 100% Pure Essential Oil
Botanical name: Artemisia pallens
Extraction: Steam distilled from the flowering herb
Origin: India
Colour: Golden to orange-gold
Aroma profile: Warm, fruity, herbaceous and sweet, with apricot, fruit liqueur, tea-like, balsamic and softly spicy notes.
Davana is a beautiful and unusual Indian essential oil, quite unlike the sharper, more camphoraceous members of the Artemisia family. Its aroma is warm, sweet and rounded, with a distinctive fruity character often compared to apricot, dried fruit, warm tea and fruit liqueur, resting on a soft herbaceous-balsamic base.
In India, Davana has a long association with devotion and ritual use, particularly in fragrant garlands and offerings. The fresh herb is traditionally connected with worship of Shiva, giving the plant a special place in Indian aromatic culture. This devotional background sits beautifully alongside the oils perfumery character: soft, warm, fruity, sensual and quietly mysterious.
This is our first Kobashi Davana oil from our trusted Indian distiller, selected for its particularly lovely aroma and confirmed by GC/MS analysis. The profile shows a genuine Artemisia pallens essential oil with a strong davanone-rich character. Davanone is present at 46.91%, alongside davana ether isomers, ethyl E-cinnamate, ethyl Z-cinnamate, methyl E-cinnamate and bicyclogermacrene. These constituents help explain the oils apricot-like warmth, sweet balsamic depth and long-lasting drydown.
On the blotter, Davana opens with a warm, sweet, fruity-herbaceous note. Over time it softens into a more rounded apricot-tea character, with a gentle balsamic background and a tenacious, slightly sensual drydown. It is one of those oils that continues to reveal itself slowly over several hours.
Davana is especially valued in natural perfumery for adding warmth, fruit, softness and depth. It blends beautifully with rose, sandalwood, patchouli, frankincense, citrus oils, florals, resins and gentle spice oils. It can be used to soften sharper blends, add fruit-like complexity, or bring a warm Indian aromatic note to floral, oriental, resinous and woody compositions.
Traditional use and character:
Davana has traditionally been used in India as a fragrant herb in garlands, devotional offerings and aromatic preparations. In perfumery and aromatherapy, the oil is often appreciated for its comforting, softening and emotionally warming qualities. Its unusual fruity-herbaceous aroma makes it especially interesting where a blend needs sweetness and depth without becoming heavy or sugary.
