COLOUR: Orange red
ORIGIN: Bulgaria
AROMA: Sweet, exotic, deeply floral and heady with a creamy note typical of the fresh damascena rose.
QUALITIES: Known as the queen of oils because of its affinity to the female system. Widely used in skin care, especially for dry, sensitive types. Soothes anger and grief. Renowned for its sensual properties.
HOW TO USE
The Bulgarian rose extract is fairly solid at room temperature and must be heated to 57c before it melts. To do this we reccomend that you put the bottle into the small pinch seal bag provided and submerge in hot water (not boiling) Boil some water then leave to cool for approx 5-10 mins before using or use a thermometer to check water temp. We recommend that you do this only once and dilute accordingly in a carrier oil for later use or at least keep the heating to a minimum in order to maximize shelf life of the oil.
The aroma of the oil is powerful and characteristic of fresh roses, the flavour is strong, sweet, and somewhat honey-like. Guenther The Essential Oils Volume V Krieger Publishing Company, Malabar, Florida.
Harvesting commences at 5.30 am and is completed by 9.30 am. Each bloom is hand picked and an experienced harvester can pick 10 to 12 kilos of blooms in the morning. Processing by solvent extraction commences immediately. A new cold processing technique using Klea a propellant used in inhalers is employed. The gas is removed from the product and reused. The grower of this rose supports women, who make up the bulk of the workers. The women are paid directly for their work (wages are usually given to the husband), a school has been built for the children and they are actively encouraged to attend. Medical provisions are also made. The workers are encouraged to set up their own farms supplying the raw plant materials, which are purchased at a guaranteed price.
